Member Benefits

Be Part of the Cooperative Movement

Be part of something great, be part of the growing cooperative movement. Cooperatives are built on the belief that there’s strength in mutual self-help.

Have Your Voice Heard

We run our credit union democratically, so your opinion matters. We encourage you as members to exercise your right to vote for an elected Board of Directors. Have a say in decisions affecting the overall direction of your credit union.

Give Back To Your Community

Through community donations, sponsorships and scholarships, rest assured that you’re also strengthening the communities GVC Credit Union serves.

Share The Success

In 1997, we introduced Patronage Equity Shares. These shares enable us to share our earnings with member-owners. When the credit union profits, so do our members. It’s a winning formula for everyone involved.

Deposit Insurance

Your deposits are 100% guaranteed and protected by The Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.

Credit Union Advantage

More than 1 in 3 British Columbians are members of credit unions.¹ That’s because of our informative, friendly service and big commitment to local communities.

Listening to member-owners helps us provide products and services that truly meet the needs of patrons. This is truly the credit union advantage.

Credit Union Difference

Membership is the most distinctive feature of the credit union system. When you open an account with GVC Credit Union, you join the credit union and become a member-owner.

You’ll share a common bond with fellow credit union members, join a thriving community, and have a voice in setting the direction of the credit union.

Primary Tier

Most local credit unions are full-service financial institutions with a wide range of products to match member needs. Although linked provincially and nationally to other credit unions, each credit union—like us—operates independently under the direction of a Board of Directors.

Provincial Tier

Credit unions are members of "central" credit unions, which provide corporate financial services and development support.

We belong to Central 1 Credit Union and Stabilization Central Credit Union of British Columbia.

National Tier

The national level consists of a number of financial cooperatives, as well as the Canadian Credit Union Association which is the national trade association for credit unions in Canada.

Membership Application

Applying online is easy! Get your SIN, date of birth, employer’s name and number ready. The process can take 5-20 minutes.
