Community

We’re committed to making a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.

About us

GVC Credit Union is proud to be one of the oldest credit unions in British Columbia. We serve approximately 5,000 members from 4 branches in the Lower Mainland, with a promise of providing our members with excellent and personalized service.

Our values

We strongly believe in the values of equality, equity, and solidarity. We’re also connected to our beginnings: in the tradition of our founders, we believe in the values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others.

Community involvement

Giving back to our communities is very important to GVC Credit Union. We’re proud to support community events, donate funding to various charitable organizations, and support youth by way of sponsorships and scholarships.

Scholarships

Our scholarship program was established in memory of our pioneer members.

Every year, we want to recognize and reward the positive achievements of young people of all ages by presenting scholarships to several schools around the Lower Mainland.

Recipients are chosen by the school based on academic achievement and financial need.

GVC Christmas Hamper Program

Learn about GVC Credit Union's annual Christmas Hamper Program.

GVC’s Christmas Hamper Program was established in 1987. Volunteer staff members purchase food and gifts with funds raised from calendar sales or member donations. Items are boxed and delivered by staff to families recommended to us.

We take pride in the fact that over the past 36 years we have been able to deliver over 1,000 hampers to families in need. This is largely due to the generous donations from our members!

How to apply

If you know of a family who would benefit from one of our Christmas Hampers, please fill in a nomination form  and return it to any of our branches or by email to marketing@gvccu.com.

International involvement

Provided operational and policy support to De Schakel Credit Union in Suriname.

Post-secondary education awards

The Credit Union Foundation provides awards to students in financial need.

Credit Union Foundation of British Columbia

The Credit Union Foundation of BC (incorporated in 1958) is a philanthropic organization founded and organized by the province’s credit unions.

The Foundation's primary purpose is to help post-secondary students in financial need access academic, technological or vocational training in BC.

We also provide grants to mature students upgrading their basic education and skills to allow them to enter the work force.

Lastly, we’ve established the Pioneers Trust to help students in need. This is in memory of the pioneers who made a significant contribution to the community, GVC Credit Union and to the credit union movement.
